About Husselton Head Oysters
Husselton Head Oysters is a 5th-generation family-owned aquaculture farm located on Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. We operate on two acres of water in Vineyard Haven. One acre is located in Lagoon Pond. This area is utilized as our nursery, where we bring our seed which has been upwelled and nurtured from 1mm to 12mm or 1 ⁄ 2”. We size, grade and regroup these nursery shellfish up to ten times before it reaches our second location in Vineyard Haven’s outer harbor under a sandy bluff known as Husselton Head, hence our namesake.
This acre known as our grow out area has eight strong tidal flows over it every 24 hours , Flows originating in the Atlantic Ocean from the East and West mix with warmer Vineyard Sound waters to deliver what we believe and call “Oyster Candy”. This nutrient filled sea water is what gives our oysters their unique flavor. All of our shellfish, oysters and scallops, receive the same care and attention.
